2 Min Read

A Berlin football club is honouring hometown hero Paul Kalkbrenner by renaming its stadium in his name.

SV Sparta Lichtenberg, currently competing in Germany’s fifth division, will officially rename its home ground from Sportplatz Fischerstraße to Paul Kalkbrenner Sportfeld. The ceremony will take place on 27 September and marks the beginning of a new chapter for the club.

To celebrate the occasion, the opening will include a charity match between Sparta Lichtenberg and a special “Team Kalkbrenner,” bringing together sport, community, and long-standing local ties.

The moment carries particular significance for Paul, who grew up in Lichtenberg and has a deep-rooted connection to the club. A lifelong supporter, he also played for Sparta Lichtenberg in his early years and has remained closely connected ever since.

By renaming the stadium, the club pays tribute not only to Paul’s global success, but also to his enduring bond with the community where it all began.
